Car Alarms: Hawk Alarm on 96 Diesel Chevy Suburban, chevy suburban, wire colors

I have a 96 Suburban that came with an alarm on it -- no one knows anything about it.  (there is a Hawk sticker on the window).   I see a toggle switch under the dash,a small red light on the dash,  and an alarm - speaker in the engine compartment.

Today I had to change batteries.  When I re-connected them the alarm went off.  Changing the toggle switch in up or down position did nothing-- turning on the ignition did nothing.   So I disconnected batteries again.


this time I left the ignition in the ON position and then connected the batteries.   The alarm did not go off this time, however the parking lights came on and stayed on.     

I "played" with it some more -- disconnecting batteries, ignition switch on / off.  And all of a sudden everything was working fine.

I would like to disable this and disconnect it. ( could cut the wires to the alarm, but I'm not sure what else may be impacted or how to find out.     Leaving the parking lights on is not good--and I'm not sure why it did that unless something is connected incorrectly-- the alarm was not sounding at this time.    Any idea how I can remove whatever wiring or disable whatever connections are made.   

Also I have no idea what the toggle switch does (it's now in the down position) and I don't want to touch anything.
