Car Alarms: 99 Mercury Cougar-typical FORD, 1999 mercury cougar, neutral safety switch

Question
My 1999 Mercury Cougar Gt has a factory alarm system. Sometimes it works other times it doesn't. That doesn't bother me. What does is the fact that I have replaced my ignition switch, all my relays, fuses, and my neutral safety switch, but my Key still will not start my car. However if I disconnect the wire that runs to the starter and touch it to the positive battery terminal the car will turn over and run. Also if I put the key in the ignition and turn it all the power works. What is the issue?

Answer
Troublesome system, and not an uncommon issue
by a long shot.

Unfortunately this vehicle's PATS key based engine disabling
system.

Now, my expertise is in disabling
the PATS for remote start applications,
but if it's me, on this car, I would suggest
you go to Ford now and have them reset and
reprogram the ignition keys to the PATS
again. Not alot you can do on your own. :>(

Sorry, no quick magic on this one.
