Car Alarms: car alarms, stock alarms, pontiac g6

recently i had 2 vehicles broke into,an '06 gmc p/u and '07 pontiac g6 gtp. both vehicles had their stock alarms armed.Is there some way some one could bypass both alarms and can it be prevented from happening again?
