Car Alarms: Viper alarm not working, viper alarm system, valet mode

Question
Hi,
I have a viper alarm system on my '99 Toyota Tacoma. The doors lock when I try to alarm the truckbut the alarm does not go off when the door opens. The light stays on when the truckis not started. I thought it was in valet mode and tried your suggestion, but it didn't fix the problem. I noticed another person seemed to have a similar problem (12-16-04 "Viper car alarm not working), which you referred to the DEI guy. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Answer
That's how it's done.
I don't have another suggestion really.
If you did the valet procedure, that is the
solution I would offer. Short of that, I
would get up in the underdash area,
locate the alarm, and unplug the brain box.
Wait approx 10 mins, then plug back in to
reset the eprom.

If this still does not fix it, then yes, contact
a DEI seller for some help, or take the easier
way and replace it with a system you understand from
the get go. Then this will not be an issue in
the future. Finding a DEI that will help will be
harder then swapping it out. Not the most
helpful folks, and really unhelpful if
you did not buy it from them.

Try the Valet system again:
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, press and hold in the valet/overide
button, found under the dash area,
until the installed LED in the dash
area goes on solid, and the siren chirps once.
(Your valet switch might be the toggle (on/off) type.
in this case, key on, flip switch
in opposite direction, key off.)

This should reset the alarm.
Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.

Let me know how it goes.
