Car Stereos: subwoofer issues, dual voice coil, crackle

Question
Hello Ed. one day while using my system my subwoofers began to crackle and then smoke started to pour out of the box. they are lanzar maxpro14ds. i'm pretty sure they are blown and i would like if u could verify that. however i was planning on upgrading to pioneer premiers anyway. the model is TS-W3001D4 12". i was wondering if u could help me out in building an enclosure for two of these subwoofers. i would like it to be ported.

Answer
Hi Vito.

To verify if the subs are blown get a volt/ohm metter and test the impedance on the sub, if it shows a number that its not the right impedance that the sub had originally then its blown, ej. if the sub its a dual voice coil 4ohm and it shows you 6.87 then its blown, but if it shows you 4.66 its still good.

I would be glad to help you out, but i need to know your amplifier's specs, also need to know if you are looking for SPL.

Regards.

Ed.
