Chrysler Repair: 94 Lebaron: key fob programming/theft alarm disarming-removal, key fob programming, remote keyless entry

Question
QUESTION: My wife lost the key fob to unlock the security system. It automatically would reset itself. I have another key but not another fob. I read what you wrote to Gene on how to disarm the alarm so I am good that way. How do I fix the system from automatically resetting itself.  I am thinking I will first go to a junkyard to pickup another fob. So my question is how do I get it reprogrammed and how do I fix the autoreset problem? Thanks, Ron

ANSWER: Hi Ron,
I am unclear as to what you mean by the security system "reset itself". Does it just re-arm immediately after you disarm it? If so, then there must be something in the door lock switches that is sending a false arming message to the body computer.
I checked the '94 manual for the LeBaron and don't find an instruction for a remote keyless entry. I do have the instruction for an LH-body car which if you can find the plug should be applicable to your Lebaron:
"The plug you have to access in behind the middle upper vent bezel of the instrument panel (above the radio). Remove the bezel. Behind the bezel you should find a black plug connector, attached to the bezel or to a traction control switch, with 6 contacts; if you hold it so the pins are three on each side with the "ears" positioned at the bottom middle and bottom right corner, the keyless program contact is the upper left corner. The wire attached to that program contact is dark green in color.
Turn the ignition switch ON. Ground the dark green wire to a shiney metal body surface using a jumper. The door locks will lock and unlock, which means the receiver is ready to receive the code from the new transmitter.
Press any button of the transmitter to set the code. The locks will cycle to confirm programming. If you have another transmitter, do the same for it.
Disconnect the ground from the dark green wire.
Reposition the plug in the manner that you found it.
Replace the middle bezel to the panel.
That should do it. This instruction is from the '94 Chrysler LHS manual."

QUESTION: I think your answer will help. What happens is when you turn the key off the alarm will arm itself with-in two minutes. then if you open or shut the door it will se3t the alarm off. Very irritating. So, we got out of the car walked away (lost the remote)and when we returned the alarm was armed. Disconnected the batery to shut the siren off, then connected the battery again and tried starting the car with just the key. It would not start. I hope disconnecting the battery did not cause a hard lockdown. Did it? Ron

Answer
Hi Ron,
No, I believe that you can cause a hard lockdown unless you pull the plug on the alarm module when the engine is NOT running. I believe that you have a theft alarm module mounted on the right side cowl (the panel in front of the front door opening, under the dash). It may be hidden behind the trim panel/rug that covers the cowl panel but I can't be certain. There is also the body computer at that location which has a black plug and a red plug each with 25 pins. The theft module has a 21-pin natural color connector. If it isn't at that same general location then you will find it above the glove box.
If you want to just remove the theft alarm module to do away with this problem than be sure you can start the engine first: If it isn't starting because it won't disarm with the door key, then go to the theft module and locate pin 11 of the plug with a black/light green wire. Also find the wire on pin 4 (dark green/orange). Stick a fine straight pin through each of those wires' insulation so as to contact the internal conductor. Touch the two straight pins together then separate them. That should disarm the module from its armed or alarmed status. Then try to start the car. If it starts, then while it is running you can pull the 21 pin plug out of the module which shuts off the theft alarm system safely.
I did find that the remote keyless entry module is located behind the back seat, just in front of the convertible top pump and motor motor. So the procedure that I described for programming a new fob should be able to be done at that location. The dark green wire is on pin 4 of the black plug (might also be labelled as "D".
