Auto Racing: 5.7 engines compatability for building, professional engine builder, horsepower range

Question
QUESTION: i have a 93 and a 96 5.7 engines both out of trucks the 96 is a vortec and id like to know if either engine could be built into an ls1 or if id need to get another newer block for this project

ANSWER: Both engines can be "built up" into the 6-700 horsepower range by a professional engine builder. Whether they can be made into the  LS1  specification I wouldn't know.  It depends entirely what the "project" is to become. A street car has no need for that much power and most people don't want to buy the $9.00 per gallon fuel necessary for them.  Most current track rac ers use the aluminium racing block that is not available as a 'stock' item.

Good luck

QUESTION: ok mabye a better question is can ls1 heads and intake fit on either engine block

Answer
Questions like that should be directed to your Chevy dealer. They have manuals and books that give that information. There are hundreds of head and block combinations possible.
I'm not the right guy for that stuff. Plus, most of my experience is with foreign stuff, mostly Jap cars.

Sorry I can't help further
