BMW Repair: Oil pressure sensor - 1988 735il, euro spec, sensor light

Question
Hello - can you please tell me where the oil pressure sensor is located?  The display is telling me to replace and I'm hoping it's easily accessible to remove and replace.  I'm also thinking this is why my check engine light is on.  Thanks!

Answer
Hi,

It's on the inlet side of the engine below the injection manifold, unless your car is a bit different than euro spec. It's a single connection sensor with a black body and a male spade connector at the top. It should have a large hexagonal head for securing it to the block (similar to most sensors), but make sure it is damaged first and not just a corroded contact. There was a recall for the model after yours on these oil pressure senders and I am not sure if they are the same or similar. The recall was due to the possibility of water getting into the unit and causing the oil sensor light to come on when there was in fact not a problem.
I am assuming that your car is an E32 and not an E23, though both the motors were the same?
Good luck,

Regards
