BMW Repair: 1988 BMW 325i, water coolant, bmw 325i

Question
I have a 1988 BMW 325i that is blowing white smoke (lots) out of the tail pipe. It smells very heavy like raw fuel .It didn't run all winter and when I started it this is what i experienced. The garage who is working on it cannot now get it started and have indicated the motor is not getting fuel anymore and the fuel pump is making funny noises. Probably not related issue's but lots of bad luck , any idea why the white smoke and what could be happening?

Answer
Rick,
Well smoke color will actually tell you alot about what's going on.  Black smoke is usually unburnt fuel/running rich.  Black smoke with a blue tint to it is oil, somehow excess oil is getting into the cylinders and being burned.  White smoke is usually water/coolant.  You may have a blown headgasket, and it's allowing coolant to leak into the cylinders and it's being burned.

Sounds like that's what your problem is...

 Hope this helps,
 Josh
