BMW Repair: lights, invertor, angle eyes

Question
hi just wanna know if u can run angel eyes direct from side lights without invertor as i tried plugging into invertor &  nothing happened

Answer
Gary,
I'm guessing you are talking about running the "angel eyes" on an E30 (84-91 3-series)?

First off, there are MANY different kits for these lights, Ebay is the reigning king of knock-off parts, and some are good, and some are junk.  I'm guessing you bought a kit that came with an invertor?  The invertor steps up/down the voltage, if the bulbs use a different voltage than the car's supplied 12 volts.  It would be odd to me for a system to use anything other than a standard 12v bulb, unless it were an HID system (which would not be practical).  I would look at the bulb that is lighting the angle eyes, and it should have a voltage and wattage stamped on it somewhere (unless its an LED light).  If the bulb says "12 volts" then you should not need an invertor.
Most people will splice into the lights on the bumper (turnsignal), so that the angel eyes will light up without the headlights being on (parking lights).

Please reply back with the info from the kit, or a web address where I can take a look at it myself, so I can help future people with these questions.

Thanks for the great question Gary!
