I recently had a tranmission filter and fluid change done at a repair shop.  When I picked up the car and went to leave the tranmission wouldn't shift until the car had been running about 15 minutes also the switch that changes trany from economy, sport, and manual was working properly prior to the service but doesn't work now.  What could cause the car not to shift until it's warmed up?
Answer -
Auto trannie flushes are a bad idea for this reason.
It's not uncommon that a transmission runs into problems after It's first flush because all the sludge that was their is no longer causes it to act differently.  It could also be because they used the wrong type of fluid.  Other than that I'm not sure
I recommend you insist the repair shop rectifies the problem.

*** I have insisted but they refuse to do anything about it.  So what can I do, I've already reported to the Better Business Bureau...  Also, should I try to do a full flush? What about the switch for the trany that changes the transmission from sport, economy, or manual?   Thank You!!

Answer
You need to know what color the fluid was when it came out.
what happens is this:
the fluid, when not changed regularly gets a little low and brakes down (chemically) causing extra friction of the shift plates which causes them to wear down.  Dark colored or black fluid is caused by all the particles of the worn plates, when this fluid is changed the particles that were in the transmission are no longer there denying the plates the friction they need to shift.
Should the case be that the fluid was black, the transmission most likely did not have much life left in it any ways.  Regardless, when you request a Trans flush most shops make you sign an agreement because they know this sort of thing happens all the time.  On the other hand, if the shop did not perform the flush properly it's possible they used the wrong stuff.

The selector switch may have been deactivated by the cars computer in order to instigate a "limp home mode"  It would be good to get the computer codes read to see what is most likely the culprit.
Find out how they did the flush and what they used.
