Alfa Romeo Repair: Milano 87 Heater Fan blower- Connecting?, fan blower, heater fan

Question
Thanks for the quick reply. You seem to know exactly what I'm talking about. But I can't see any discoloration or melting anywhere. second and third "settings" work  it is the first that doesn't so can it stilol be the "direct positive feed" Are there ways to test that board (multimeter or other)and where can I get a replacement if this one proves to be deffective.
Tahnks again

Hello,
I bought a 1987 Milano v6 2.5. The Bosch eletrical motor for the Heater/Fan Blower was shot. I replace it, had a brand new one shipped from Germany.
When disconecting the original I had noticed that, appart from the two wires going directly to this motor,  there where three wires connected to a small board . These wires are clarly marked "High", "Medium" and "Low". The order in which they were conected intrigued me at the time . From left to right "High"- "Low" and then "Medium" . When I reinstalled the new motor I tried reconnecting them the same.

Here are the results. When I switch the fan to the first level,  I only get a low noise, coming from something that sound like a trap opening behind the control panel. When I swtich to the second setting of the fan I get low speed, and on the third setting, I get a faster (maybe not as fast as full speed though)spin.

I own a electric mutimeter but have no clue how to use those things! I also have all of Milano's workshop manual but I can't read a wiring diagram.
Any simple test or solution you can suggest would be of help.

Thanks.

The small board contains the resistors for the lower speeds.  It would appear that you have lost the direct positive feed to the motor (which is the high speed). It is probably a burned connector and will be obvious by the discoloration of the metal clip or melting of the plastic plug/insulation.

Answer
disconnect the wires on the board and set your dmm to ohms and check the ohms between all three contacts-- they should have some resistence--not .3 and not open.

You may have to substitute.  But, try International Auto Parts or Daves Alfa in Berkeley, CA
