Audio Systems: fried wires, fuse boxes, pretty colours

Question
i have installed like 4 different stereo's in my car and one day i was going to install a new one and i accidentally let some wires touch they were connected to the car not the stereo so i tried new fuses and a different stereo but nothing worked so i thought i fried the wires connected to the car but i don't know how to fix it can u tell me if im right and how to fix it

Answer
Hi Garrett,
It is fairly obvious that you have blown a fuse or two, in most cars there are a couple of fuse boxes, check out the owners manual for that make? and model? of car. If the wires were fried you would know it, lots of smoke, nasty smell and melted plastic instad of pretty colours on the wires.
Dispite having fitted a total of 5 stereos it seems the first line of the fitting instructions has slipped past you, "disconnect the battery". I think you will remember next time.
Use a 12v test probe or meter set at 20vdc to trace the power and test both sides of all fuses with a tester or meter as sometimes breaks can be hairline and the fuse seems OK when it's not.
Hope that helps as I didn't have too much to go on.
