Audi Repair: A4 Central Locking, interior light, light switch

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I a problem with the central locking on the drivers door of an A4 2002 saloon. All the doors lock except for the drivers door. With the door closed the interior light stays on indicating that the door is still open. In the manual it says this door won't lock when it is open. However, no matter how hard I close the door the car thinks it's still open and won't lock the door!!!

ANSWER: It sounds like the interior light switch may be bad. Locate the switch and see if it is operational.  Let me know,  Jan

QUESTION: Would a bad interior light switch affect the central locking?

Answer
A bad interior light switch in the door may be the problem; I don't know if there are additional sensors in the door lock itself, but the interior light switch in the driver's door would be my first check.  It is a little black push button in the door surround somewhere, usually near the hinges.  See if that is intact and functional.  If you push it and wait, the interior light should go out.  Let me know,  Jan
