Cadillac Repair: brakes, brake caliper, squeel

Question
Hi i have a 92 deville and 6 months ago i had front brakes and new rotors placed on it, lately i have a brake sqeak now and then from the fronts, took it back to shop no charge they said they lubricated brakes, still doing it, is it something major to worry about?  Brakes work fine just noisy.

Answer
Brake squeel is just annoying when you step on the brake pedal.

The cause is usually caused by:

1. Brake pads that have a hard compound for longer life vs a softer pad that usually does not make any noise but wears out sooner.

2. the rotors were machined to to smooth of a surface vs a rougher surface of which wears out the brake pad sooner.

So, It's a trade off. You can have NO noise but will be replacing the pads more often or have the noise and get twice the pad usage.

If it does not bother you, Don't wory about it.

This ONLY applies IF the noise is evident when you step on the brake. If the noise gets louder and or is heard WITHOUT stepping on the brake pedal this needs to be looked at to be sure that the brake caliper(s) is/are not faulty.
