Chevrolet Repair: 99 chevy suburban door closing problem, door latch, chevy store

Question
Thanks for reading my question.  I have a 99 chevy suburban k1500 5.7 liter.  My driver side door has an issue where no matter how hard i close it, when I drive, it opens so that it is still closed, but not sealed and rattles and I can hear the outside noise.  When I looked at the latching mechanism on the door, where it latches on the door jam, there was some plastic that had come loose, looked like it had originally covered part of the latch.  I pulled this off and the door shut and sealed for about 3 or 4 days then the same problem began to occur again.  Do you know what i can do to fix this?  the door rattles and when it begins to rain will leak.  I would appreciate any help.  Thanks.

Answer
HI ALEX, THE PIECE OF PLASTIC THAT YOU REMOVED COVERS THE DOOR LATCH TO MAKE IT QUIET WHEN CLOSING. WILL WORK OK WITHOUT IT. OPEN THE DOOR ALL THE WAY,I WANT YOU TO LIFT UP FROM THE BUTTOM OF THE DOOR EDGE [DOOR HANDLE SIDE BUT LOW,SEE IF THERE IS ANY MOVEMENT FROM THE DOOR HINGES [LIFT IT UP AND DOWN.THERE SHOULD BE NO MOVEMENT AT ALL. IF SO THE DOOR HINGES AND BUSHINGS ARE BAD. IF THERE IS NO MOVEMENT HERE THEN CK THE STRIKER THAT THE DOOR LATCH HOOKS TO. SEE IF IT IS LIGNED UP TO THE LATCH .IF NOT LOOSEN THE 2 STRIKER BOLTS AND ADJUST THE STRIKER TO CATCH THE LATCH OF THE DOOR. IF THERE IS MOVEMENT IN THE DOOR HINGES YOU WILL NEED TO GO TO YOUR CHEVY STORE AND GET BUSHINGS AND PINS FOR YOUR DOOR.IF YOU ARE HANDY YOU CAN DO THIS YOURSELF. IF NOT, TAKE IT TO A BODY SHOP AND HAVE THEM INSTALL THESE. THERE LABOR RATE IS LESS THEN A REPAIR SHOP..ONE LAST THING IF THE DOOR HINGES ARE HELD IN PLACE WITH BOLTS YOU CAN LOOSEN THE BOTTOM HINGE BOLTS AND PULL UP ON THE DOOR AND PUT SHIMS BETWEEN THE DOOR AND HINGES TO RAISE THE DOOR TO MEET THE STRIKER. MORE THEN LIKELY THE DOOR FALLS DOWN ABOUT 3/8 OF A INCH WHEN YOU OPEN IT MAKING IT CLOSE REAL HARD OR NOT AT ALL.  USE SOME 3/8 WASHERS,, 2 TO 3  CUT IN A U SHAPES TO SLIDE THEM AROUND THE HINGE BOLTS. THIS WILL WORK BUT YOU SHOULD STILL REPLACE THE DOOR HINGE BUSHINGS AND PINS IF THE DOOR IS LOOSE...I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU,, TOM...
