Chrysler Repair: Chrysler Cruise Control malfunction: replace servo?, vacuum hoses, brake light switch

Question
Roland, The cruise on my 2004 Concorde is acting up.  Its a 2004 with the 3.5L engine. Sometimes it works, sometimes no.  I recently had some transmission work done and the fellow told me I needed a new cruise servo. I wouldn't mind replacing it myself but I have no idea where to look and just how much is involved.  Can you help?

Answer
Hi Dave,
I would not accept the judgement of the mechanic about the servo unless he tested the system thoroughly:
See if you have a diagnostic trouble code stored (free readout at an Autozone parts store, or for $40 at an independent garage).
Is your brake light switch mis-adjusted (switch activates by itself when going over a bump in the road because switch is too close to brake lever)
Loose or corroded connections at the servo
Leaking vacuum reservoir
Loose or leaking vacuum hoses/connections
Defective vacuum one-way check valve
Speed control servo cables attached firmly
Smooth operation of the throttle linkage
Electrical connections to the PCM OK
Clockspring discontinuity (between steering wheel and steering column)?

Any of those may cause a mal-function. Only after proving otherwise would I suggest replacing the servo. It is located near the steering/brake unit area of the engine compartment and is connected by a cable to the throttle linkage.
There are a few pages from the manual I can copy and send you if you decide to replace it.
