Chrysler Repair: temp gauge, gas consumption, typical range

Question
How far should the gauge move up on the thermostat?

Answer
Hi Stephanie,
The typical range of the gauge is 1/4-3/4 once the engine is warmed up and the car is moving. Concern is appropriate if the gauge is all the time above 3/4 as that is just too near H to accomodate temporary idle conditions if the weather is hot; and if it is below 1/4 most of the time then the engine is not running efficiently so gas consumption per mile is higher than it could be.
If you have a specific situation let me know the year, make, model, and engine size.
