Chrysler Repair: Engine cutout 2, obdii scan tool, sensor signals

Question
this is a followup to earlier. engine dies at highway speed and idle. not all the time, maybe once a day. I have the obdII scan tool, i stated that it wasnt giving any codes. I tried the engine light method and there was a code 11 intermittent loss of crank and/or camshaft pos sensor signals to pcm. I dont know why my scanner didnt pick this up, because i disconnected the tps while running and it picked that up. Will this code 11 cause my intermittent shutdown problem? thanks again...Scott

Answer
Yes, Scott, the brief loss of either signal can cause a brief shutdown because you loose either the spark timing or the injector timing depending upon which is acting up, or even the ASD relay can be disconnected by the PCM. Unfortunately, the 11 code doesn't tell you which, so you might try again with the OBDII reader if/when it gets worse to see if you can get a differential code from that more complete reader. In the meantime, try wiggling the connectors and harnesses for those two sensors to see if you can generate a miss. It could be one of the sensors is beginning to die (both are hall effect types), so that too is a possibility but ideally you won't have to replace both to find out which.
