Ford Repair: brakes 98 explorer sport, bleeder valves, master cylinders

Question
I have a 98 explorer sport 2 door 6 cylinder 4wd SOHC with cruise control. I replaced rotors, calipars, and master cylinder. I blead the MC (i did not bench bleed it)and the brakes they get hard then they get soft and when i start up the truck they go to the floor, Do i have to bench bleed the MC? Or i heard the ABS has to be blead. all bleeder valves are closed.

Answer
you should have bled master cylinder but it can be bled on vehicle-if you used a cheap master cylinder from certain parts suppliers you may never get it bled out-i have run into a lot of trouble with less expensive master cylinders-that being said yours may be fine-don't pump pedal when bleeding cylinder let someone open lines while someone else pushes pedal down and holds it while the lines are closed-repeat this until no air is coming from lines. then bleed wheels. if you have much trouble doing this let a reputable garage bleed or check them it may cost you something but brakes are nothing to play around with. good luck.
