Hyundai Repair: 2000 Hyundai Elantra ran out of gas, hyundai elantra, 2000 hyundai elantra

Question
I have a 2000 Elantra, 2.0 dohc 16 valve, that ran out of gas. It would not start after putting gas into it, so we replaced the fuel pump (brand new). Then we replaced relays with ones out of another elantra. Still nothing. Tonite we tried taking out a spark plug and it had fire. So, we tried starting it with starting fluid and still nothing.
What could be keeping it from starting up? It has gas pressure to the regulator on the end of the fuel rail. Sounds like fuel pump is only running while I am turning car over.

Answer
Hi, Sarah.  You should probably consider that the low level of fuel may have been coincidence.  You already know you have fuel pressure (although not necessarily enough) and spark.  If you haven't done so, I'd say it's a good idea to check the timing belt; it's possible it broke or stripped, causing the engine to stop running.
