Hyundai Repair: 2001 hyundai elantra, vehicle speed sensor, hyundai elantra

Question
recently my 2001 hyundai elantra's speedometer stopped working.how and where do i get it fixed, and what is the cost?

Answer
Usually, the problem is with the vehicle speed sensor or gear on top of the differential of the transmission.  Replacing the speed sensor and gear fixes higher than 95% of the occurrences of an inoperative speedometer.

This is a minor repair and I would think it would run no more than $300.  Cost will vary depending on repair facility and your geographic location.  To get a better idea, you should call a few places in your area capable of doing driveability diagnosis and get quotes from them.  If you don't know of any good driveability shops in your area, you should probably use the dealer.  Since it sounds like you'll be paying for the repairs, you should have the shop investigate the issue to be sure my suspicions are correct prior to performing the actual repairs.
