Jaguar Repair: alternator, brown wires, fuse box

Question
QUESTION: I Inherited a 1983 xj6. I have 2 large brown wires coming out of the firewall. One is hooked to the alternator and the other is just taped off and set aside. I went to move the taped up wire and when i contacted it on metal it was definately charged and threw sparks. Can anyone tell me where these wires go?  thanks Sid

ANSWER: Hi Sid,
"Coming out of the firewall" does not tell me where the wires are at. All brown wires are power wires. You are going to have to be more exact.

Jaguar Repair: alternator, brown wires, fuse box
pics of wires
QUESTION: I traced one wire that is hooked to the alternator and attached a couple pics. It goes under this fuse box and then splits into smaller wires. One going to this fuse box and one into this shiny box. The other is tucked behind the firewall and it looks like it splits off and goes to the positive to the battery and I will have to have more time to figure out where else it goes to.

Answer
Sid, you need a wiring diagram and then check the car to see what don't work. Then trace that circuit only with the diagram and a test light. Trying to follow a wire into a harness will drive you crazy as when it gets inside you will see hundreds of wires branching in all directions.
This is the ONLY way I could diagnose any electrical problem.
