Jeep Repair: oil cap, putty knife, oil cap

Question
For the life of me I can figure out how to get the oil cap off. one direction turns with loose clicks, the other direction turns with tight clics. but neither direction unscrews it. help please.

Answer
Easy one here.  Take a gasket scraper or putty knife and pop up one side of the top half of the cap.  You will find the top half should have two fingers sticking down and a spring between them or maybe it's fallen out.  You'll also see some rounded teeth which is why it clicks both ways.

Next, get a pair of pliers.  I use channel locks, don't know why, just know they work.  Tighten pretty good on the part still stuck in the valve cover and twist the crap out of it.  It should break free.  Remove it.

At this point you can do one of three things.  1. get a new cap.  2. reassemble cap and reinstall, only don't tighten too hard 3. leave off the top half and put pliers in vehicle for repeated use.

It's not a difficult task and you certainly don't need to pay anyone more than $5.00 if you don't want to do it yourself.
