Hello, If you could assist with this problem that would be great. I have a '95 Altima GXE, 2.4 auto. w/out sunroof. I wan't to install map or courtesy lights in the front but there isn't one there now. Did Nissan pre- wire these cars even if the option was not installed? I have only seen a combo LIGHT/SUNROOF BUTTON for this model, I just want to install a light or light/sunglass holder combo like on the '02 & up, or earlier models if they will fit (they all look the same from '93-'05) and wire in to the existing wire only if it's there...? Many thanks again!

Answer
Steve,

The car is not wired for additional goodies.  You can make it work by back probing wires with a test light and see which ones are switched or not.  I have a 350Z and did this for the foot wells since there were none.  i ended up going to the a post on the drivers side and tapping into the dome light for power.  Now, since you want map lights you need something that will have power switched or not.  It is up to you if you want the lights to work with the key off or not.  Problem with using unswitched power is if you forget to turn it off and get out of the car.  Eventually, it will run the battery down.  But, the convenience of having it when the key is off is a plus too.  Your decision.
