Land Rover Repair: Starter for 96 Land Rover Discovery, land rover discovery, valve cover gasket

Question
I have a 96 Land Rover Discovery which I just purchased as a project. There are multiple problems blown head gasket and valve cover gasket. My problem now is that I am not getting voltage to the starter. The battery is bad, but I have tried with jumpers from my Ford which has a new battery. I have checked the fuse and I have voltage to the starter relay, but I can not get voltage to the plug which connects to the starter. I know there is a starter relay diode which then goes to the transmission position switch so I am pointing there know, but before I start tearing the gear shifter and covers up I would like a true professionals help. Please help.

Answer
If the truck has been sitting a while with a dead battery there is a good chance the alarm has been triggered, and the system will have disabled the starter.  The only way to get it going will be to connect a factory T4 or Autologic system and resync the security and clear the lockout.

Before doing that you should get a good battery in it and clean up the cables because these lockout problems are a common result when the battery goes dead or you lose power for some other reason.

When you wrote your question it sounds like you were expecting a wiring fault, but my guess is, it's in the software of the security system and not a fault at all.
