Land Rover Repair: Water in gas tank., water in gas tank, extreme caution

Question
What is the best way to get water out of a 1999 Disco?  I accidently put water into my gas tank, and like you would expect, it will not run properly.  I have attempted to siphon out the gas, however, I can not get a hose into the tank.  What are your recommendations on doing this as cheaply as humanly possible and at home?

Answer
Hi Tyler,

You'll have to drain the tank by removing the fuel pump and then draining from inside the cargo area, outside in a well ventilated area, no possible sparks or electricals, take extreme caution with this - even though it may be mostly water mixed with fuel.  Water is heavier but...

You'll have to depressurize the fuel system, disconnect battery, rollback carpet in cargo area, unseal and remove the fuel pump, drain water/gas with hand pump for fuel, reset fuel pump (maybe a new seal).  Fuel lines can crimp or could be corroded - careful here - also, you may have trouble refitting fuel pump due to age and corrosion around fitting hole.

This is the easiest way I can think of.

Best of luck,
