Land Rover Repair: coolant eruption follow up, coolant leak, blown headgasket

Question
hi john,  follow up on the coolant eruption from a few weeks ago.  (cruising at 100km) sorry it is a series 1 1996 with 81000 miles on it.  i have since read the codes and it is giving me a 1316 code which seems to point to a emision/misfire can you provide any help?  also that squeeky sound i mentioned on my previous email seems to be coming from underneath and not under the hood.  i should also add that i can hear a slight sound from around the hood of a "chink chink" sound as if something was loose somewhere.  it is very sutble and you have to listen to hear it.  one more thing as there is a slight odour that kind of reminds me of burning coolant but this could just be residule off the engine.

Answer
Hi Kevin,

I think you have a blown headgasket here.  The coolant leak, the noises, the smells and the repeated firing and OBDII code 1316 all point in that direction.  If you're getting some coolant into the cylinders, it could cause this type of reaction.

Best to have it pressure tested by a capable mechanic.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
