Land Rover Repair: 2002 LR Discovery horn button cover, broken horn, horn button

Question
Hello John - I own a 2002 LR Discovery II. When I was making a turn recently my watch wristband caught the left horn button cover on the steering wheel and  pulled the cover off. Two of the prongs on the underside broke off. I was scheduled to get an oil change so I asked the dealer if they could replace the broken horn button cover. The service tech called and told me the horn switch harness would have to be replaced and total cost would be approx $200. I am a realist when it comes to repairs and understand dealers and technicians have to make a living and have always paid fair wages for any work or service completed, but cannot comprehend spending $200 to replace the horn switch harness when all that is needed is the left side horn button cover. I'd be willing to pay $10 or even $20 because I know such parts are unique and don't often require replacing, but cannot justify replacing the whole harness. Do you have any suggestions? Many thanks,  Jim

Answer
I posted the instructions to replace the horn buttons a week or so ago.  It takes about an hour, and the horn buttons are only sold as part of a harness kit.

I agree that there should be a simple snap in fix but at this time there isn't.

You are welcome to buy a whole assembly and try and get the buttons out but if it doesn;t work out the whole thing is trash.
