Land Rover Repair: 2001 Freelander td4 low fuel stalling, land rover dealer, air bubbles

Question
I have a 2001 Td4 freelander.  It occasionally stops running when the diesel level is between 1/4 and empty.  It shows all the symptoms of having run out of diesel even though the low fuel warning light hasn't lit up.  When I add fuel it eventually starts up, and topping it up shows that it still probably had 6-7 litres in the tank when it stopped running.  Once topped up, the car runs perfectly and shows no symptoms of fuel feed problems.  The Land Rover dealer said that Freelanders don't like slopes on low fuel and didn't offer any suggestions as to why it stops running when there are still 6-7 litres in the tank. Hope you can help.  Thanks.

Answer
The dealer had right, be cause the TD4 engines has two fuel pumps. One in the tank, one at the left side at the engine compartment (besides the filter). And very sensitive to the low fuel.
There are two chance:
1: you can check do those pumps work?
2: If yes then check the fuel pressure before the second pump. It should be at least 3 bar.

You can check the transferred fuel to air bubbles in the tube, or continous flow.

Naturally these test can be done when the fault is present.

The pump in the tank oftenly faulty. You have to know the fuel pump don't like the non-continous flow (when it sucks air because the low fuel level)
