Land Rover Repair: at peace with The Three Amigos, safety boards, voice your opinion

Question
I have been visited by The Three Amigos as well (02 Disco). I have
read the previous entries concerning this, and have a question.
What is the worst that can happen if I do nothing to fix it? I am now
out of warranty. I can get used to the lights, I might learn to like
them over time. Ask my wife, I can ignore anything.
I am not enthusiastic about sinking money into something that LR
doesn't know for sure how to fix. I will be happy for now, to contact
whatever agency is necessary to help get a recall in place; and then
address the problem if a recall is made.
Thanks

Answer
Hi pspaceman,

so you are at peace with these 3 amigos.  Good.  I've long given up hope of permanently fixing the ABS problem on my Disco and, like you, I've come to terms with the warning light.  My brakes are working fine and even though I don't think I have 100% ABS capability, I sure do know that my brakes are still working.

For series II Disco's, it is most likely safe to say that the brakes will continue to work as they are intended. Without the HDC and TC ability, the brakes work as normal and you'll have to adjust your driving to that condition.  Regular brake maintenance is still advised.

As for a recall, you could visit your state's Attorney General office and submit a complaint.  You could also write to the Land Rover and voice your opinion too.  They are of the mindset that the problem does not exist.  We have to let them know that this problem does exist and will not fade away so easily.  THEN write a complaint to the Transportation Departments and safety boards in your country.  Perhaps we can initiate a recall.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
