Military Vehicle Repair: Chevy M-1009 Blazer, coolant temperature, plastic diamond

Question
Being somewhat new as a M-1009...What is the voltage to the glow plugs ? Is the glow plug relay a standard commercial one ? What reduces the voltage and amperage to the glow plugs ? And what is the purpose or the glow plug module and is it a standar commercial one ? I am having trouble with the above and really need the help.

Answer
The glowplugs are 12 volt.

The relay can be replaced with a commercially available Niehoff S55.

There is a large resistor across the firewall, behind the engine, unless someone has removed that, and tapped in between the batteries, or at the black plastic diamond shaped 12 volt power tap on the firewall, just inboard of the relay.

Purpose of the module is to time the glowplug operation properly according to coolant temperature.
Yhat isn't a commercially available module.
Replacement can be found at memphisequipment.com

I have heard of people replacing it with a pushbutton, and having good luck. He operated the relay with the button. Make sure the relay isn't stuck closed before you replace all the glowplugs. If it is arced shut, it will burn the new ones up in about a minute.

If your relay is a black plastic thing, about an inch long, or so....they are sorry. They melt internally.
Replace it with the one I mentioned above. Looks like a Ford solenoid, but the winding is not grounded to the mounting tabs.
