Motorcycle Repair: 83 vt750 shadow air gap, spark plug gap, hydraulic control systems

Question
hi i have a 1983 vt750 honda shadow can you please tell me what an air gap is, and how to set it?
thanks

Answer
Amber... I don't know exactly what you are referring to with an "air gap" question. I can only guess that it is about the valve clearances...?

See http://nv750.motolab.ru/manual/manual/23.pdf for details, where you will discover that the valve train is hydraulic and no adjustment is needed. If you have noise up in the cylinder head valve train, perhaps a hydraulic lash adjuster is dirty or defective.

There is a spark plug gap for the plugs, which is normally about .028" or so.

The ignition is all electronic and non-adjustable. Other than keeping the engine full of clean oil, the cooling system maintained and fresh plugs and air filters in the bike, they have little maintenance issues, other than those of old age deterioration... fork seals, rubber parts deteriorating and hydraulic control systems suffering from age and contamination.

I hope I have addressed your question. If not, please clarify and ask again.
