Motorcycle Repair: Oil Problem in top end, pushrod, flht

Question
QUESTION: I recently replaced the pistons in my 99 FLHT.When I got it back together and started it for the first time it had an unusuall amount of top end clatter. When I pulled the rocker cover it had no oil any where in the top end, but had 32lbs of pressure. It ran for about 3 minutes. I have since pulled lifter and push tube covers and left off rocker covers. I pulled the plugs and turned over the engine with starter. It showed 6lbs pressure. I had oil coming from the lifters but never getting to the rockers. I've checked passage ways with air and everything is clear. Do you have any sugestions? Also my manual does not show how to adjust adjustable push tubes. Can you help me there to please?

ANSWER: Couple of questions. did you go over size on the pistons and how did you bore them? Did you bleed the lifters when you ut it back together? the push tubes you are refering to, are you talking about the pushrods?

QUESTION: My engine is 95in. I went from 10and1/2 to 1 pistons to 9to1 for lower compression and more reliability. I did not bleed the lifters, Iput everthing back in the same hole, but would like to run the overhead just to be sure. Thank you for a timely responce and I will be waiting on the next one.

Answer
Starting with the front exhaust, rotate the motor until the lifter is all the way to the bottom of its stroke. Tighten the pushrod until its tight. Let it sit for about 15 minutes to bleed. Go back to it. If the pushrod is loose, tighten it again. Keep doing this until its bleed all the way. Once theis is done, loosen the pushrod about 1 1/2 turns and tighten the locknut. Do this to each one
Good luck and happy riding
