Motorcycle Repair: Fork Lock, happy holidays, trees

Hi Mike, I own an '04 Sporty, I just recently bought it and noticed that the fork lock doesn't work, could I troubleshoot and replace or repair or do I have to bring it to the shop?  Also, one more question, I want to change the derby cover.  When I take off the cover, is there any liquid that will spill?

On the fork lock. To replace it you hve to remove the whole front end of the bike. The lock is held in by the stem of the trees.
If you want to change out the derby cover, all you have to do is remove it and install the new one. You will, however, have to have somebody hold the bike a little off center so you dont loose the primary fluid.
