Motorcycle Repair: Electrical, woodruff key, cm400

Question
How do i replace a stater on a 1981 honda 400cm? I dont know if i need a puller to get at stater or if this hub somehow is threaded?

Answer
Marc, the central rotor bolt must be removed first, then you need to find/purchase a special tool, which screws into the threaded rotor hole. This tool will force the rotor off the end of the tapered crankshaft end. Take care not to misplace the woodruff key when you remove the rotor.
That indexes the rotor to the crankshaft for correct timing.

This listing was from a FLANDERS catalog online. Bit confusing as there are two listings for two sizes, seemingly for the same series of machines. Be sure to measure the hole size once you remove the central bolt.
It may be that Honda used two suppliers for their stators and they used different dimensions for each application.
