Motorcycle Repair: starting problem rvf 400, honda rvf 400, electronic ignition system

Honda RVF 400 P reg (1996 aprox)
Was starting and running ok untill 2 days ago suddenly wont start.I have charged the battery, i also disconected the fuel tank  and rigged up a dummy tank and got a result she seemed to be running well, this morning i went out and again she wont go! i'm getting a spark from the cdi unit and she is backfiring from time to time  i'm at a loss and would be gratefull for any ideas you have. Thanks.(bike is garaged so she is dry!)

I suspect the electronic ignition system is failing. Tests would determine which component is faulty. May be an intermitent problem.


Pick up a shop manual and follow troubleshooting procedures. Look for manuals and michrofiche parts viewing at: www.bikebandit.com and also on Ebay.
