Motorcycle Repair: Ultra vs. Wing, twin cam motor, reliability issues

Question
Hello.

I have a '98 Wing SE that I have had for 3 years. Love the bike, reliable, smooth. But, I have been yearning to buy a new (2004) HD Ultra Classic ... every boy has to have one eventually right?

Anyways, I've had a lot of people tell me I'm asking for trouble, that the Harley still has reliability problems, especially after 50,000 miles or so. Typically top end rebuilds and minor stuff putting you on the side of the road. Also that the V-twin is based on 100 year old technology, and as an air cooled bike (I live in a hot climate) will never hold up like a liquid cooled machine.

I ride solo a lot, and I don't want to be stranded.

Your opinion on the reliability issues please?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Answer
you need to meet some new people, your people live in the flinstone age, The twin cam ultra is every bit reliable as you 98 wing. I have seen EVO motors with over 168,000.0 miles on them with out a rebuild.Evo motors were built in 1984 to 1999, the twin cam motors from 1999 to present, the twin cam motor are even better then the older EVO motors, Not like your gold wing that can NOT EVER BE REBUILT and is not worth much in value. thats my story and I am sticking to it.
