Nissan Repair: Transmission Filter, isuzu bighorn, pan gasket

Question
Hi there, I know you are not a isuzu expert but with my 1994 V6 automatic isuzu bighorn I need to remove the filter for the transmission and I was just wondering how to do that, do I have to drain the oil? What is the name of the pan I have to unscrew. Could you please provide as much detail as possible Thanks.

Answer
Harley,

Get a transmission filter kit.  It consists of a pan gasket and a filter.  It could have a gasket for the filter or just an o ring.  Anyway, just remove the pan and filter and replace them with the new parts and fill the transmission with four quarts of transmission fluid to start.  Then, start the car and fun it through the gears, not moving, and then put it back in park and check the fluid level.  It should take another quart or two to fill it to the full mark on the dipstick.  Do not over fill the transmission, so add a little and check often until the level is correct.  Use no sealant on the gaskets.  Sealer will destroy your transmission.  Do not over tighten the pan gasket or the filter.  Be sure to use the correct transmission fluid for your vehicle.  Should be DEXTRON II.
