Nissan Repair: Nissan Maxima 1995 doesnt always start, nissan maxima 1995, neutral safety switch

Question
When car is warm (after sitting is sun closed up during the day) I try and start the car it will often not do anything. The only way to get it to start is to open all windows, move the transmission between park and neutral and keep turning key. Eventually it will start.

I had the interlock switch at the transmission changed... that didn't stop this problem.

Don't think it is the starter, since opening windows shouldn't help that. Might it be the ignition switch itself?

Is there a way to test it?

Thanks.

Answer
Rick,

If the safety interlock was replaced and it is still doing it on hot days could lead me to the ignition switch.  I would get a test light and track where the voltage stops.  At the starter check with a test light.  If there is no power go to the neutral safety switch, the one you replaced.  If there is no power there replace the starter relay.  If that does not do the trick change the ignition switch.
