Nissan Repair: 1987 maxima needs new motor, decent shape, wrecking yard

Question
The timing belt on a v6 3.0 broke and when replaced I was told the motor was locked down. The car is in fairly decent shape, what does the motor being locked down mean? Is it worth it to buy a used motor/engine for an 1987?

Answer
Karl,

The motor you have is an interference one and that means the belt breaking caused valves and pistons to smack each other.  It is easier to get a wrecking yard motor and replace yours.  lkq.com and others on-line are good sources for replacements.
