Nissan Repair: 2006 Murrano, yokohama tires, murrano

Question
QUESTION: Love my @006 Murrano, but have two problems that the dealer cannot seem to fix. One is a rotational noise, seemingly coming from the tires, as it speeds up and slows down with car speed. They have replaced both front axles, then said it might be my ties, but I just replaced those, and the noise still persists.

Secondly, I have 10113 KMS (lots of highway miles daily) and for the past 6 months I get a vibration/low humming noise around 1000- 1500 RPM, firstly when accelerating or decelerating, but now just all around that RPM. I was told it is just the mileage on the vehicle.

Not very convinced on either issue, and both continue to bother me on a daily basis.

Comments would be greatly appreciated!

ANSWER: Kay,

I would first replace the tires.  I am sure that is the problem.  Check where the tires were made.  China has started exporting tires and they have issues with vibration and noise.  If you have rotational bearing noise I would have the CVT transmission inspected to make sure the bearings are good.  There is a 100,000 mile extended warranty that Nissan has put out on cars in the United States.  I do not know if it extends to Canada.  Check it out.  And, when you purchase tires get ones made in Canada or the US.  I had a BMW with new tires that were Kumo and they are supposed to be good.  These were not and they were made in China.  I bought a set of Yokohama tires that were made in the United States and the difference is incredible.

QUESTION: Thanks a bunch!  I did replace the tires last fall with Michelin Radials, but it did not make an iota of difference. Not sure if they are made in China, but I don't think so. I will have them check the CVT, and the warranty is now 200000 KMS. Do you think the low humming/vibration could be related to the transmission then?

Answer
Kay,

Yes, the transmission is known for this.  The dealer will not do much of anything until it blows.  You will have to prove to them that the transmission is on its way out.  Continue to point them in that direction and they will correct the problem.
