Nissan Repair: help, nissan maxima, mulitmeter

Question
I have a 95 Nissan maxima that wont start. The battery works fine but when you turn the key you don't hear anything. The lights turn on and the radio work but thats about it. I don't know anything about where everything is located so i need help step by step on why my starter might not be working

Answer
Hi Emily -

Can you do a couple field tests for me -

First of all, turn the headlights on and try to start the car. If the headlights go out or very dim all of a sudden, then it is the battery. If the light stays strong, then it is probably the starter or the ignition switch. you will need a circuit light tester or mulitmeter to check the starter. Notice the red lights on the instrument panel. While you turn the key to try and start it, does another red light illuminate? If so, it is probably the starter.

There are all kinds of variables here, so if you get stuck, get back to me or you can give me a call (M-F 6A - 4P hawaii time). (808)590-0585.

Hope this helps -
