02 nissan sentra gxe code p0181 (fuel temp sensor) how to troubleshoot this code & or repalce the fuel temp sensor

Jim,

The sensor is part of the fuel pump assembly.  I just replace the assembly and clear the code and you are done.  Disconnect the battery to do the job and the code clears.  The pump access is easy on yours with access from under the back seat.  No drop lights or smokes or anything that causes sparks and have a friend with a fire extinguisher at the reeady.  I like to do the job outside for fresh air and to mitigate any fire risk.  I once saw a shop burn to the ground because a person dropped a light and the spark lit the gas and you know the rest.  Best done in the driveway during daylight hours.  Oh, me sure the gas tank gets a new o-ring for the fuel pump seal to the tank.  The old one gets gas on it and swells up and it makes it really difficult to seal again.
