Nissan Repair: TAIL LIGHTS, brake light switch, nissan pulsar

Question
I HAVE A 87 NISSAN PULSAR.  I JUST REPLACED A DISTRIBUTOR CAP, ROTOR AND IGNITION COIL, AND CAR STARTED PERFECTLY.  I THEN WASHED THE CAR.  THE NEXT DAY CAR STARTED AND I DROVE IT.  I TURNED CAR OFF, BUT BRAKE LIGHTS REMAINED ON AND HEADLIGHTS WON'T GO UP OR DOWN.  WHAT COULD IT BE.

Answer
Sandra,

It sounds like the master switch is defective on the steering column.  That is the one you use to turn the headlights on.  Also, press the brake pedal and see if the brake lights get brighter.  If they do it is only the master switch.  If they do not then you need a brake light switch too.
