Nissan Repair: 1996 Nissan Maxima not holding charge, nissan maxima, fuel pump relay

Question
1996 Nissan Maxima has had new battery, new thermostat, needs water pump, has also had new alternator.  Will not hold a charge unless I drive her every day, which means I have to jump her if I do not drive her every day.   138,000 miles, tuneup at 100,000 miles.  Drives smoothly when we get started.

Answer
Patty,

If the alternator checks out good then you have a drain on the system.  There is a light on somewhere or a relay that is stuck.  Take the car to Autozone or Checker and have them check the charging system to let you know if the alternator and battery are working properly.  If so, you will need a good electrical guy to diagnose what is running the car down.  Now, you could start isolating things youself like taking the fuse out of the fuel pump slot overnight and see if the car will start after a couple of days.  Putting the fuse in and starting it would let you know that the relay was not releasing when you shut the car off.  If the car was dead again you would know it was not the fuel pump relay.  And, so on to each independent electrical circuit until you found the culpret.
