Nissan Repair: nissan fan belt, wd 40, nissan pickup

Question
I have owned my 1997 Nissan pickup for 5 years now. When I first got the truck the fan belt squeaked a little bit when I first started the truck, but a little WD-40 fixed that. Then after applying WD-40 weekkly to my belt, the belt broke on me. So I replaced the belt and made sure it was tight so it would not squeak, but of course it did. I then made the belt even tighter and it still squeaks. If I apply WD-40 it works only for about to days. Do you have any idea what I can do to fix this problem before the belt breaks on me again.

Answer
Bryan,

The pulleys are shined and smooth.  You will need to remove the belts and scuf up the pulleys with sandpaper.  400 grit works nicely.  Nothing too major, all you have to do is scuf the shine off where the belt rides.  Now, we did not discuss which belt so you might want to spin all the pulleys while the belts are off to make sure nothing is dragging.  I once did this and the noise was still there...  It turned out that the idler tensioner was going out...  So, check for that while you scuff the pulleys up.  WD-40 is a quick fix but it will make the belts fail.  Some parts stores have belt dressing and this will work for a time.
