Nissan Repair: 95 Maxima turns off while at a stop?, nissan maxima, throttle plate

Question
Hello - I have a 95 Nissan Maxima and the car runs great. The problem is when the car stops for a period of minutes and then it turns off. When you turn the key to start the car some times it takes several minutes to start back up. It seems like maybe the gas is not being pumped when the gas peddle is not being stepped on. At times I hold the gas down with the break at a red light so it won't turn off on me and that helps a bit. What may be causing the problem? You can only imagine what rush hour is like!

Answer
Henry,

Henry,

There is an idle stop dashpot that keeps the throttle plate from slamming closed and I would think that it is letting the throttle plate close too quickly.  Also, the throttle body is probably gummed up and needs a cleaning.  Also, if the plugs have not been changed for a couple of years I would change them too.  Email me back and see if this corrects the problem.  Laslty, chang ethe fuel filter if it has not been changed in a couple of years.
