Nissan Repair: Nissan 95 stalls on idle, 5 speed, coolant temp, pep boys

Question
Hello,

about a week ago my engine lite came on.

Now my Nissan 95 with 60,000 has been stalling on idle, or when I am traffic and I slow down it has stalled also.

I took car to a shop today and they said their computer diagnostics says that I will need coolant temp sensor, nock sensor, and hardness sensor #1.

also they mentioned it will take 5 hours to do the work.

Does this sound about right ?

Also, Can I keep driving my car for few weeks and do this when I have the available $ for this repair.

Is there any potential of damamge to the engine if I continue to drive it until I have repair $?

This sounds correct except for the hardness sensor?  I would think that would be an oxygen sensor.  If it were not for the knock sensor needing to be replaced I would be fine wiht you driving it.  However, the knock sensor can allow the engine to advance timing too far and this can cause engine damage.  Also, there is the risk of a wreck from the car stalling on you.  Temperature sensor, knock sensor and oxygen sensor can all be had at the local parts store and you could install them yourself if you have  the tools to do so.  Try Autozone, Checker or Pep Boys adn see if they have what you need and then have them reset the code.  Better yet, have them read the codes, for free, first and then buy what you need and do it yourself.  They can show you where the sensors are located and what tool you will need to do the replacement and after you are done they will clear the computer codes for free...
