Nissan Repair: REAR BRAKE REPAIR, needle nose pliers, nissan maxima

Question
I am having trouble replacing the rear brakes on a 2000 Nissan Maxima.  The piston will not retract into the caliper.  I've tried to rotate it clockwise with needle-nose pliers, but it does not move.  I have taken the cap off the brake fluid, and I've attempted pushing on it with a C-clamp.  What am I to do in order to get the piston back into the caliper?

Answer
Max2000,

I have a 2000 Maxima so I know what you need to do.  The back brake pistons have to be screwed in at the same time as they are compressed.  Go to a parts store and get the tool and you will be ahead of the game.  Rotate the piston as you compress it.  Once it is in all the way you can reinstall it.  Be sure that the piston is up and down with the grooves as there are tabes in the brake pad where the grooves line up.  That way you will have it correct when you install the new pads.  The crazy screw in thing is so the parking brake will work since it uses the same piston as the brake uses to stop the car.  Other cars use a seperate set of brake pads to do the parking brake function.
